This iconic Daytona from the mid 1990s became known as ‘Patrizzi’ in honour of Osvaldo Patrizzi, the Italian auctioneer who was the first to recognize the distinctive patina caused on the chronograph sub dial chapter rings. This was a result of the use of Zapon, an organic varnish which suffered from oxidation, turning the silver tone into a Brown colour.
This oversight by Rolex now seen by vintage Rolex fans and collectors as a unique and beautiful element with each individual watch degrading to create its own unique hue from creamy patina to deep coffee brown.
